If you just started reading about Palm today you'd think the whole ship was sinking. The guy who writes that Sunrise software said he'd no longer develop for Palm, then some fancy review says the Palm can't measure up to PPC, then the Palm developer program disappearing.
Palm can do whatever they feel will make the most money, but they are abandoning ship right when personal video players are starting to emerge. The ultimate device would be a hard-drive based Palm, which would be a great direction for PalmOne. The reason I don't own an Archos/iPod/Creative Zen/Lyra is because it doesn't have the PalmOS in it.

Oh wow... U mean like a Multimedia Palm that had a miniture Hard drive which could do Video, Mp3s, Bluetooth and WiFi and basically do every thing the iPod can do and MORE? I know where you are comming from, but I have beat this idea to death. I've posted several times about peoples feelings on this on these forum and at best got mixed results from my posts... Still I think it's a great idea.. But truely doubt the palmOne would ever give it a try... PalmSource needs to hit up Sharp or some other consumer electronics company to make a better Palm device.

that would be really expensive, wouldnt it? also it would be much larger because it would have a hard drive in it. i have an ipod and a z72, and there is a large difference in weight. the larger screens on palms would also effect it. just my oppinion :D

Not really much more expensive or different in size... It could use the same hard drive which the ipod mini uses. The Hard drive wouldn't replace the internal flash or the PDA's ROM so the PDA could still boot up as fast as normal, but it could be used just for mass storage of Media... But this has been just my visions of what a MultiMedia PDa could do... I think it's fine that palmOne wants to branch out into new directions as a business and enter the Mobile Phone/Smart Phone community, but not at the expense of their core business as PDAs. With that in mind, if Apple computers can make a large portion of their profits overall as a company from the iPod sales, than why not palmOne do the same thing and make an entertainment device that can do everything the iPod can do, plus more with Video, WiFi, Bluetooth, USB Mass storage (much like the T5 is now) and still be a PDA??? Just makes sense to me to seriously consider that option.

Why stop there ... why not insist upon XM in all of your portable audio devices. Sheesh!
