Peeps, im planning on switching from my T5 to a zire. Im sick of my T5 constantly dying on me every 1 day and a half after a 2 day fix. Theres not many threads here bout z72 problems, but jus incase, could you peeps name everything bad about you zire? Cause i hear that the zire72 makes some sort of noise, not sure if thats true or not. Just name what ehatevers bad bout your zire72 peeps.

The only bad thing I've heard about it is that it doesn't have a camera cover and it doesn't use the Palm universal connector.

Aside from the paint issue, I don't recall reading many problems with the Zire 72.

It has some screen whine, but a lost of Palm's PDAs have this and if it gets too bad you can do junglemike's crazy foil trick :D

Stability-wise, almost anything you get will be better than a T|5 I reckon ;)

Man, there arent many developers for the zire. This forum seems reletively quiet. O yea, and how long till the paint on the zire will come off? is it for sure going to come off no matter what? or is there a way to keep teh paint safe? Cause some people said that they taken really good care of their zire and place it in a case, but it seems to peel anyway, is there a way to prevent that??

Just get the silver zire 72, then you won't have to worry about paint peeling. I only heard about screen whine on the UX50. Never heard about it for the Zire 72...

I've had my Zire 72 about a week now, replaced my SJ33 with it. My comments:
-nice screen brightness, ways better than my SJ33. I'm able to keep it turned way down, which should contribute to longer battery life.
-the screen resolution is not as good as my Clie was, even though the numbers seem to match. I actually went back to the web site to check this out within 10 minutes of first turning it on. I am getting used to it by now though and doesn't seem to be as big of an issue.
-speed is WAY faster than my SJ33. I don't play a lot of the more involved games, but on the word games I like, I am very much aware of the difference.
-Don't know about the paint issue yet - from various readings, I was under the impression that they are using a different process now so that this shouldn't be a problem any more, but time will tell. I also have no way of knowing if mine is one of the old process or new process ones. If it peels, I'll send it back; my understanding is that they do replace them, you just have to deal with the absence of your brain for a bit. Thats why my Clie has not yet been passed on to one of my kids!
-Haven't noticed any whine. I do have a concern because sometimes when I turn it on there is a small series of redlines in the bottom 1/4 inch of the left side of the screen. Goes away when I turn it off and then back on, but I will be watching that carefully and checking around to see what it means.
-It doesn't have a jog dial which I thought would be no problem, but apparently I used the jog dial much more than I thought I did. I'm getting used to that and shortly I won't be automatically fumbling around for it!

Overall I like it though and I suspect I will grow to love it once I get used to the things that are only an issue because for 2 years I've been using something a bit different.

zire and palm are not that bad because i sent in a zire 72 to p1 and they sent it back with a referb zire- the zire doesnt look or preform like a refurb 1 it is in perfect condition. i got it back in 5 days total including transit time with free dhl next day service. ive had the refurb 1 for 3 months and so far no peeling and the screen is perfect the camera doesnt have a green tint on it 2. i tried to peel but it wont come out any more.

Man, ive jus noticed that my T5 whines as well. I have to put my ear real close to the screen then i hear a high pitched noise. Im not sure if this is good or bad...hmmm

Well... Dunno if this helps but my Handspring Visor Deluxe whines too when the backlight is turned on... :D

Anyway, from what I've heard this is what's wrong:
-No camera lens cover
-Rubber peels off after some time
-Camera isn't best of quality (green line?), video recording isn't good (sound bad)
-Speaker (or) headphone jack whines

That's all I know about the Zire...

ok the issues are: camera problme (greenish and reddish on corners and middle) not sure if they fixed it, paint peeling (im sure they fixed that) and screen whining. overall if you don't mind those problems, its a pretty good pda because its very light, you get a good grip on it.

Ok. Anyone have experience with the silver Zire 72? Is the paint on that one "rubbery" too?

i just got my Zire72s(silver) for about 1 and a half month.
the day i started open the box and start charging is on 7-JAN-2005.

yesterday, while i was reviewing some of my vids that was recorded earlyer. suddenly it just lost its speacker sound. i even tried a hard reset. still it have no speacker sound. oddly whan i plug an ear phone into it. there is sound comming out from the ear phone(system sound, alarm sound, game...). this is bad. i'm going to send in for repairs tomoro. i hate taking my palm around with an earphone stuck on it.

about the paint, hmm. i'm using the aluminium casing(nice hard case). no peeling yet. ;)

anyway my Zire72s does makes some sort of noise. the high pitched noise came from the screen. the noise can be heard only if your ear face directly to the screen. and the noise can be heard for about 3 feet distance and its the same noise i hear everyday from my old Zire71(paint peel off at the camera slider). :(

the card manager, has a bug! do not try to move more than 1 item into the card(sd / mmc) or you will risk yourself corupting all data inside the card. move item 1 by 1 will lower the risk. i lost all my data whan click copy album to card the other day.

or maybe is just that i got myself a worse factory made Zire72s which only happen every few thousand badly made PDAs sold.

Hows the battery life of a zire72?

i've had my 72 (blue) for about 6 months now, and my analysis is:

- The camera seems pretty good; just don't expect dedicated camera quality.
- The microphone is really good; can even run a guitar tuner perfectly from it.
- The built-in speaker is loud; can actually feel it vibrate the back sometimes.
- The screen is excellent; big, roomy and I can actually see text, unlike old my m105. Just turn it up in the sun, and it looks good.
- The blue platic covering sucks; just scraps off.
- Bluetooth range seems a bit limited; not 10m anyway.
- Excellent processor; very fast and capable. I haven't found a game yet that doesn't run jerkily.
- The battery life has been excellent; lasts for days of even listening to mp3s for about 30mins a day. That has decreased a tiny bit now though. It charges very quick too.
- Not very heavy at all; by itself anyway. Add a good enough case and it weighs more.

Overall a excellent beast. I love mine. I almost feel lost if I can't find her.

i've had my zire72 for just three days, and this is what i've noticed:

- camera works great if you're taking pictures outdoors, with good sunlight; when indoors the camera can't pick up the image clearly - it's like as if you're trying to take a picture at night time; and when you're in a brightly lit indoor area, the colors don't match up - is anyone able to take clear pictures indoors? i want to know if this really a general problem with the camera or if it's just with my particular unit

- battery life isn't too good, i just took about 36 pictures, two 1.5 mins of video, and played some light games and battery was dead after about 8 hours; i've read that the negative thing about the zire72 is battery life, so i'm suprised that jakepog's zire's battery lasted for days - lucky him!

- speaker is good, video recorder picks up sound faster than the image, and sometimes the sound gets staticky

- everything else works fine, except that one time after i turned on my zire there were black and white lines at the bottom left corner of the screen, which disappeared after i turned it off then on

i'm mainly bothered by the camera as it's pratically useless indoors even during the daytime, and i have to keep recharging the battery every nigh (actually that's what palm recommended in the manual), but the camera - i'm not expecting it to take great picture but just be able to take decent pictures indoors. any thoughts on this?

Yes, my zire72 has an awful camera when used indoors, the picture looks like ive taken it when the sun is set. And im tired of having to hold the camera so steady as it takes teh picture, mine usually takes 3-4 seconds before it generate a picture. But then the target of my photo probally moved by then giving me a very blurry image.

The battery is horrifico! I use my zire72 for mainly music and PIM. I listen to music ALOT, i cant live without music! but the zire72 limits me to music, i can only listen to music for about 30-45 minutes till it gives me a warning.

So to conclude this situation that i have with my zire72, i took the easy way out and just recently bought a TH55. Battery life is AWSOME! plus it holds more of my information that i put into it. And the organizer rocks! nothing ive seen so far in any palm out there. Plus i love the music player as well, better than RealOne.

Ive noticed that my zire72 doesnt peel, I had it for about a mounth now, and it still looks great, nice and blue
