No sound, even after hardsync

hi. can anyone help me out with this? my sound doesn't work. I thought it was just the mp3 player but even after i perform hard synch, there's no sound and when i plug in earphones, the sound is very very very faint out of one ear. I have tried making adjustments on preferences. Alarm sounds don't work either. Palm wants $125 +tax to fix it. ugh. any advice would be helpful. thanks

What Zire do you have. If a hard reset doesn't fix the problem (before you HotSync to restore your data), then the issue is very likely a hardware issue.

If you have a Zire 71, then I'd put $10 down that you've got a cable issue.

I lost both audio and camera a couple months ago. The rest of the Zire's functions were fine - just no sounds & no camera. When I slid the camera section up to shoot a pic, the display would blink, then continue acting as if I hadn't turned the camera on at all.

The problem was a ribbon that connects the camera & audio to the Palm. Too much open/close of the camera (or doing it rather forcefully) caused damaged to the ribbon.

I am hunting eBay for a spare Zire 71 so that I can get the parts from it and repair mine. Once I do, I will follow the instructions at :
