I read these boards quite often and I've seen variations of this question asked before - but not answered in a way that was helpful. I getting back to Palm after a foray into Pocket PC (I just didn't like it and the software didn't stack up -- No Bonsai counterpart and I like Docs to Go better than the Mobile Office stuff).
Right now - I'm leaning to Zire 72 (price, size, positive reviews). I'm also considering T3 and T5. I don't use Wi-Fi, Bluetooth or PDA/Phone. I'm looking for advice on these models and was curious if anything new is on the short-term horizon. I'm concerned about battery life, speed, and screen quality (not necessarily size).
Thanks in advance for anyone's advice.

I like the T3 over the other two devices because it meets my PDA needs the best. I like the metal case, the voice recorder and the vibrating alarm. These features are not available on the T5. The Zire 72 is a nice device, but I just don't want a digital camera built-in to my PDA. As for the T5, it does have the most memory available on any Palm OS device.
If I had to spend the money, and I did last year, I'd still go with the T3 if you can still find someone who has them in stock.

I hope You've learned your lesson! Its a NO-GO for PPC's they are for the old people who doesnt know the meaning of fun.
Dont go for a T5 man, ive learned my lesson. I went from T5 to a Zire 72 and never regreted it. It feels much like a sony clie....in some ways. Its a great device and battery is not as great as T5. But its still good. The speed is faster than the T5. Dont let the MHZ of the T5 fool you. It may have 416 MHZ, But graffiti and other applications run slow on it. The zire is much faster and better looking. The only thing I've miss about my T5 is the big screen and thats about it. If i were u, its either T3 or Zire 72. Choose wisely and welcome back to the good side of palm.

P.S the screen quality is awsome! Colour on it is the most buetiful thing ive ever seen! Pluse besure to get a New Zire72 with no paint peel. Or you can go for a silver one if u like. (i prefere blue though)

So true. Point taken. Palm fails to make a device with new features. All of their pda's are the same! Except they are in a different shell. We havent seen any improvments in their devices for a while. The T5 was a downgrade. Palm did nothing but slow the device down. I tuely would've went for a sony, only if they still make em. My first PDA was a Sony and i still miss it. even after ive moved on. I still miss my NX70.
dave.busch, another option is an TH55. If I could find one, then i would of never had my T5 or Zire. TH55 beats them all.

Yeah! Palmone need more devices with better specs like wlan and better interfase for business users AND specially way BETTER battery life. One example is zire series, because it lacks in all of those.
Personally i thing that now days best palm os devices are tungsten c and zodiac 2 and th55

I suggest looking into a Tapwave Zodiac 1 or 2, I have one and love it almost better than my old Clie NZ90. Trust me, the Zodiac as a wonderful screen, natural feel, very little reported problems, and when problems are reported they are fixed quickly. All in all, it is a good device to own.

Remember, the Zire line is the non-business series, and as such, the main point of the Zire line is to build a good basic PDA for a low price. So you won't see a Zire with a bunch of uber-geek features. Just the basics.
However, I do agree with your, that palmOne seems to have forgotten about "the Zen of Palm." (Which is a good document to read if you really like the Palm OS.) With Ed Colligan taking over as the palmOne interum CEO (a la Steve Jobs?) maybe we'll see an improvement. Ed was around with Jeff and Dana when they built the original PalmPilot.
better specs like wlan
palmOne seems to have gotten the message. It is rumored that they will be bundling in the Wi-Fi card with new T5s and Zire 72s at no additional charge.
better interfase for business users
Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync conduit anyone? The Treo 650 now has the ActiveSync conduit in the box. I'm sure we'll see it show up with newer handhelds also.
BETTER battery life
Battery technology is lagging behind, but I agree, with new features showing up all the time (faster processors, more RAM, bright color screens, and Wi-Fi) the battery can get drained very quickly.
