Ugh!

I downloaded Keyboard Hack 3.3 from Palmgear 'cos it looked like a suitable replacement for the built-in pop-up keyboard -- I found switching screens to enter numbers cumbersome and irritating.

Unfortunately it didn't work on my Zire72 -- it'd just beep when I tapped on the keyboard silkscreen button. So, I deleted it.

Now my keyboard's gone. Completely. I can't tap on ABC or 123 -- it just beeps, and there doesn't seem to be any other way to call up the on-screen keyboard. I even tried a hard reset -- still no go. Now what?

Try renaming the Backup folder in your HotSync profile directory to something like Backup.Old, and then hard reset your Palm. When you HotSync, your PIM data will be resotred, but none of the software that you manually installed. Try the Palm keybard now. If it works, reload your third-party apps and database files.

Well, here's an odd one.

I deleted the keyboard hack program from my Palm and did a hard reset. Now the keyboard hack itself pops up when I hit the keyboard silkscreen button -- despite the fact that I deleted it. Bizarre.

Now, I'm told that the original keyboard should show up in my profile archive directory should I want to restore it. In checking, I see two files: Keys_Brd.pdb and Keys_II_Brd.pdb. Would these be them?

Did you also remove the .prc from your backup folder in your HotSync profile directory? (c:\program files\palm\<HotSync ID>\Backup)

I'm not sure. Whichever files are on the device after a hard reset are the files you should go with to get the default palmOne on-screen keyboard back.
