Hurricane Chris is on a northeast path, rapidly heading for Newfoundland. It will likely be a tropical storm by then, on Thursday night. That part of Canada does get landfalls now and then. It has seen a handful of hurricanes and tropical storms make landfall within the last couple of decades.

In the last 75 years, Newfoundland has had 5 tropical storms and 3 hurricanes make landfall. You can add another two tropical depressions to that list.

2011 Tropical Storm Ophelia
2009 Tropical storm Bill
2002 Hurricane Gustav
2000 Hurricane Michael
1995 Hurricane Luis
1989 Tropical Storm Dean
1979 unnamed Tropical Storm
1943 unnamed Tropical Storm

Dozens of remnants of storms have crossed Newfoundland in the last century.

Chris is the second hurricane of the 2018 hurricane season, and the third named storm of the season. Follow the track on your free WKRG News 5 weather app.
