The Gear Fit 2 works with any android phone that’s running Android kitkat and higher all though it is running the Tizen OS which is Samsung’s very own proprietary software but completely compatible with Android.

The Gear Fit 2 is something between a fitness band and a smartwatch. It’s got all the features of a fitness band but topped with some benefits of a smartwatch - like Android notifications, ability to reply to messages with short texts and to download some apps.

The Gear Fit 2 comes with a built-in GPS and heart rate sensor as you can see at the back.

You’d also see charging terminals at the back which magnetically stick to the charger to wirelessly charge the device. In about 1.5 to 2 hours, the Gear Fit 2 can go from 0 to 100% battery.

It’s got a 1.5 inch curved super amoled panel which is bright, colourful and really crisp – the best I’ve ever seen on any smart watch – let alone fitness bands out there. The curve nature contours really well around the wrist but also assists in better readability.

The display is coated with Gorilla Glass 3 – it’s not shatterproof though so be careful.

The metal trim around the device gives it a higher quality and premium feel but the overall plastic body keeps the device light weight and comfortable to wear for a longer time.

The band is what makes all the difference I believe. It’s an elastomer which is soft and rubber like but stretches and bends incredibly easily. The clasp is what is a little weird because it may open up by getting stuck somewhere if you’re wearing it all the time and especially if you plan to exercise a lot while wearing this.
The band is detachable and I’m sure Samsung would make some options available soon. So watch out for those.

The Gear Fit 2 is IP 68 water and dust resistant so you can definitely take this one for a swim!

Gear Fit 2 is powered by Tizen and you’d be interacting with the Gear Fit 2 through its beautiful touch screen and the 2 buttons on the right edge. The button on the top is to go back while the one at the bottom is to launch apps.

There are plenty of watch faces available that can be customized to suit your mood or what you’re wearing for the day. Watch faces tell more than just time – different watch faces can give you different kind of information pieces – some will give you weather, some will tell you steps taken and calories burnt and some would convey a track of your heart rate activity.

If you’re bored by what’s already pre-fed, you could head to the Gear app store and browse through thousands of them. Some are free and some are paid.

One of the best things about the Fit 2 is the auto tracking feature. As soon as you start an activity like cycling, running, walking or sleeping – the device automatically detects it and tracks the activity. Without you having to manually start what you’re doing.

Activities are automatically synced to S Health app which is a pretty comprehensive health tracker app from Samsung that gives you loads of data and tracks them quite accurately. It is synced to your profile so even if you switch devices, your data is intact.

While it tracks your activity, it automatically keeps track of factors like heart rate, weather, speed, distance & altitude and connects it to your performance.

On an average the Gear Fit 2 lasts about 3 days including constant wear and tracking whether I’m working out or sleeping. The 3 day life might sound less than other fitness trackers but then this is not your ordinary fitness band – it’s got a brilliant screen, tons of features and android notification system with option to download some apps that can make this band more useful.

Useful tracking data is presented to you immediately after you are done working out – say running. It gives you various statistical information as you can see and something that other bands just don’t offer.

Overall, for its price point, the Gear Fit 2 definitely offers more than a standard fitness band does. And add to this a large smooth curved super AMOLED display with awesome colors, it’s really a delight on your wrist. 3 days of battery life is really not a deal breaker because, seriously, it just takes 3 days
