Deadspin reports that John Schnatter, owner of the Papa John’s pizza empire, is in a heap of trouble.
Schnatter reportedly angered a group of marketing executives by using a racial epithet.
Specifically, Schnatter used the n-word during a May conference call.
According to Forbes, the call was with execs from the Laundry Service marketing agency
They were attempting to help Schnatter navigate a PR crisis he had recently created.
The crisis in question? Blaming his company’s declining profits on NFL players' protests.
Schnatter was asked how he would distance himself from racist groups online.
He downplayed his statement's significance, saying “Colonel Sanders called blacks n——-s.”
He then complained that unlike him, Sanders never faced public backlash.
The call reportedly went off the rails, resulting in Laundry Service ending its ties with Schnatter.
