President Barack Obama on Wednesday nominated Chief Judge Merrick Garland to the Supreme Court to replace former Justice Antonin Scalia.

Judge Merrick Garland was nominated as the 113th Supreme Court Justice on Wednesday. President Obama decided to select the U.S. District Court judge after seeking the advice of Republicans.

President Obama nominates Merrick Garland to the Supreme Court, setting up a dramatic political fight with Senate republicans who have vowed to block any replacement for the late Justice Antonin.
